Ishii Hakutei (1882 - 1958)
The Ishii Hakutei Art Journey Association was founded in 2023 by a group of his descendants who want to ensure that his legacy is not forgotten. Our purpose is to introduce Ishii Hakutei's artwork to more people around the world, especially to art lovers of the next generations, and to encourage and support the study of his artwork and writing.
We work closely with art museums to create more opportunities to exhibit his artwork and will share information about upcoming exhibitions and events related to Ishii Hakutei.
In addition to being a prolific artist, Hakutei wrote numerous books, including some art textbooks. He also wrote poetry and was an active art critic. He was one of the founders of Bunka Gakuin where he taught art for 20 years, and he taught freehand drawing in the architecture department of Tokyo Imperial University. He traveled around the country teaching seminars for art teachers at local schools. In addition to promoting his artwork, our association's goal is to share information about this remarkable Renaissance man with the world.
